Bath Championship Show 2019 Critique

It was pleasing to be invited to judge this small, but quality entry of Deerhounds though it did not feel a true cross section of the breed. Remember, you have to be in it, to win it.

Minor Puppy Dog – no entries

Puppy Dog  - no entries

Junior Dog (1,0)

1 – Aston’s Balgaled Arlan Not a particularly big dog, excellent front construction, good ribcage, moved with purpose. Good harsh coat. Should mature well.

Novice Dog – no entries

Postgraduate Dog (1,0)

1 Lewis’ Greyhawks Romanie Mishto of Luckhurst Good front construction, would prefer stronger hindquarters.

Limit Dog (4, 2)

1 & Res CC Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight Pilgrim Big upstanding dog, good head and expression, lovely neck and lay of shoulder, good quarters, moved with drive and purpose.

2 – Cummings’ Killoeter Tam Dubh Very different type to the winner, heavier in head, and overall build making his movement heavier overall.

Open Dog (5,0)

1 Dog CC & BOB Finnett & Heathcote’s Ch. Hyndsight Desperado Of medium size, but everything in the right place. Nice masculine head with neat ears and dark eye, good true front, strong ribcage. Powerful hindquarters. Free flowing and covering a lot of ground on the move.

2 Constantine’s Ch. Kaleginy the Forester Nice masculine head, not quite the length of loin of the winner. Not as free flowing movement on the day, as the winner.

3 Helps’ Beardswood Torran

Veteran Dog  – no entries

Special Beginners Dog/Bitch (1,1)

Minor Puppy Bitch – no entries

Puppy Bitch (1,0)

1 & Best Puppy – Owen, Brodie & Owen’s Wolfcastle Soul Sister 9 month feminine puppy, well-constructed, moved steadily for one so young, shown in good muscular condition.

Junior Bitch (2,0)

2 bitches at a difficult age not helped by the flapping tent

1 Aston’s Balgaled Aphra Good head and expression, moved OK.

2 McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Fynne A little heavier throughout with good coat.

Novice Bitch – no entries

Postgraduate Bitch (4,0)

A nice class of bitches

1 Wice Quinton & Quinton’s Kilbourne Louisa Chick at Kirjojax Particularly nice head and expression, true front, good feet, well ribbed back, good quarters and tail. Moved well.

2 Spence’s Shagiead Stormy Seas Another quality bitch who did not like the tent. Lovely dark eye, neat ears, good body construction. Moved well.

3 Abbott & Constantine’s Kaleginy Magnolia Steel

Limit Bitch (5,1)

1 & Bitch CC – Helps’ Beardswood Unique Gem A bitch of good breed type Correct head, neck and shoulders, strong ribs and hindquarters. Excelled on the move.

2 Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight Careless Whisper Unfortunate to meet the winner. Of different type – a little smaller. Otherwise an excellent bitch, sound on the move.

3 – Constantine’s Kaleginy Antheia

Open Bitch (2,0)

Both bitches were carrying a little too much weight

1 & Res CC Morton, Morgan & Constantine’s Ch Cotherstone Islay Mist at Kaleginy Good head and construction, moved OK

2 Spence’s Shagiead Mrs Bridges Unfortunate to meet the winner, not quite so good on the move, on the day.
